Smack dab in the middle of Baseball .....

D and T both play baseball. D is the catcher for his High School JV team, T is playing Little League All Stars. Last night D played and here are a few highlights

and this poor chap didn't have a clue what the count was... he must have thought it was the 3rd strike...

T's games don't start for a few weeks but here is one of him practicing in the backyeard....

Thoughts on Turning 40

I turn 40 on Saturday. Well that isn't completely true. WE turn 40 on Saturday. I'm a triplet, luckily I have the greatest sisters (all 4 of them). We may argue when we think we know what is best for the other one but when things get sticky we know that the other 2 will be there thru the worst. I look at the other 2 of the 3 of us and I don't see an ounce of age on their faces. They look maybe 34. They have always been beautiful - inside and out.

I don't want to turn 40, I'd like to stay 39 forever. Turning forty means I'm getting old. (Like my oldest turning 18 last weekend didn't mean I'm getting old) It's bad enough that my body is fighting with me and has decided to add 10 lbs. Young and feeling pretty. Not old, greying and crabby. I've noticed that I've even got alittle crabbier lately. Maybe it's because I look around and see all that needs to be done and its not getting done (because I don't have the time.)

Today my DH told me that I sounded like my mom -- I've decided that isn't anything bad at all, my mom is a wonderful woman with a huge heart. I've always called her "Saint Shirlene", I don't know how she made it thru raising 6 kids and is still a loving and caring woman. When the 3 of us were born she had 2 teenagers and a 3 1/2 yr old.

DH keeps asking what I want for my birthday (it's gonna be really hard topping the car I got last birthday) Maybe he will figure it out.

  • To be with my sisters on our birthday. I really miss them.
  • a big PARTY
  • a necklace, one of those Journey diamond ones
  • a sparkly clean house (I ask for this for every event --never happens unless I do it)
  • Clothes (the whole damn store!)
  • Camera, a nice one.
  • the new Darrvl Worley CD - Sounds Like Life
  • Square Diamond Earrings

Writing this I've decided that although the "actual age" is 40, I'll just choose an age---after all it's just a number.

Cookies, Cookies, Cookies

It has been raining cookies at our house this past week, I've been baking and decorating cookies all weekend. I found that I have really missed decorating cookies and cakes. I really don't need eating them but I love making them for friends and family.

Don't the white ones with the yellow centers remind you of "sunny side up eggs"? I just need to design cookies that look like bacon.

Everyone says I should start selling these, maybe one day.

Update 060809 ~*~ I have to add this.. it made me feel so good! My sis-in-law just sent me this :

Melinda, Did you make or buy those cookies. EVERYONE loved them. You snuck in and I didn't know who made them until you emailed K.. THEY were soooo good. If you made them- I need the recipe for the cookies and icing. If you bought them WHERE??????????

Hmmm.. I might just have stumbled onto something here... maybe this is something I can do.

Spring Break 2009 - day 2

Well I made it thru day 1---just barely. D's girlfriend spent the day with us so she could go to the baseball game last night, but the game got cancelled -- the fields were still too wet so tonight we play! I don't know what it is about having a girl in the house but it got my 11 yr old T all worked up and he ended up acting a fool so I shipped him off to grandma and grandpa's for the night. I guess they will call when they are ready for him to go home. T is my "swizzle stick" -- he stirs things up. After he was dropped off at G&G's we came home and settled in to watch "Juno".

I did happen to get a lot accomplished yesterday, bedrooms clean and the master bath also. I had to move the "stockpile" over into the next row of cabinets to make more room because of the Garnier deal and the clearance St. Ive's at WAGS last week. I think I will focus on the "food" side of my stockpile for the next few weeks-- I just have to figure out where/how to hide some of the goodies I get. Seems C,D and T found the Nature's Valley, Cheerios mix and Chex mix and Fruit Roll Ups I'd gotten this last week and demolished it all.

Last night I also made Chocolate Chunk cookies -- those too were devoured along with a gallon of milk. I might as well face it teenage boys should all be nicknamed "HOOVER".

Today I have planned to clean out and organize my closet. This is my least favorite thing in the world to do. My closet is the catch-all place in the house. There are years and years of photos in there just waiting for something to be done with them, cake decorating stuff, art and craft stuff, household files, training manuals and other work stuff, along with the normal closet junk. I have already cleaned out an extra closet in T's room that has been claimed as MOM's Stuff Closet and I'm patiently waiting for shelves to be added so I can move all of this junk into there neatly organized of course. I have already moved the fish stuff and my sewing stuff in there.

Lets see just how far I get today....... tomarrow I may just head to work for some peace and quiet!
